National model
The TMfS:07 model, known as the ‘National Model’, is a strategic model which has been prepared with a level of detail commensurate with appraising national policy and strategic land-use and transport interventions and providing a key source of transport supply and demand data.
The model:
- covers the whole population of Scotland;
- details the choices made by people on how, where, why and when they travel;
- links with an interactive land-use model, which details the land-use transport interaction. (this is known as the Transport, Economic and Land-Use Model of Scotland (TELMoS));
- is a large database of information;
- is a forecasting tool for scheme and policy appraisal;
- is a framework for extracting travel demand for a regional and local area (sub-area modelling) for more detailed analysis;
- is capable of modelling the traveller responses to road tolling / pricing; and
- has a wide range of model outputs eg:
- operational (ie analysing congestion or traffic patterns on specific parts of the road network);
- economic (ie assessing the value of transport infrastructure and provision to society); and
- emissions (ie providing current and forecast traffic emissions levels that can be used in environmental assessments).
