Operational analysis
The types of operational analysis that can be undertaken by using TMfS are listed below:
- link flow analysis: this provides volumes of traffic (as a total, or broken down by vehicle classification) for links in the network;
- select link analysis: this provides routeing analysis (ie a picture of where traffic is coming from and going to) for assigned vehicles at selected links (and combination of links) throughout the modelled network;
- road network details: link lengths, number of lanes, speed limits, junction lay-outs, signal timings and topography;
- matrix data: zonal and sectored levels of demand which facilitate the analysis of modal and destination choice changes;
- junction and link delay analysis: to identify congested routes;
- journey time isochrones: (journey times radiating out from a specified location) and route analysis;
- public transport patronage analysis; and
- park and ride occupancy analysis.
Operational analysis can be presented in tabular (spreadsheet-based) or graphic form (using a Geographical Information System or a software package such as Cube Graphics). Examples of outputs are shown below.
