Regional models
A key feature of TMfS:07 is the hierarchical approach adopted in model development, with a high-level national model and more detailed regional sub-models. It is anticipated that, over time and as requirements evolve, the National model will be supplemented by a series of regional models, the first of which are the Forth Replacement Crossing Model and its successor the SEStran Regional Model.
TMfS:07 will continue to deliver its role as a national model, providing land-use and travel forecasts Scotland-wide, and linking those to the regional modelling suite. Regional models will provide a link between strategic and more detailed modelling, where a greater level of transport detail is required to assess the impact of transport schemes and policy along with land-use and development expectations.
Regional models may be used for:
- forecasting changes in traffic levels and public transport patronage at key points across the network;
- transport scheme appraisal;
- transport policy appraisal;
- Regional Transport Strategies;
- appraising regional development plans and local plans; and
- more detailed operational appraisal (eg congestion of roads and junctions).
