Regional models
A key feature of TMfS:07 is the hierarchical approach adopted in model development, with a high-level national model and more detailed regional sub-models. It is anticipated that, over time and as requirements evolve, the National model will be supplemented by a series of regional models, the first of which are the Forth Replacement Crossing Model and its successor the SEStran Regional Model. The SEStran Regional Model was developed by MVA on behalf of SEStran - the South East Scotland Transport Partnership.
TMfS:07 will continue to deliver its role as a national model, providing land-use and travel forecasts Scotland-wide, and linking those to the regional modelling suite. Regional models will provide a link between strategic and more detailed modelling, where a greater level of transport detail is required to assess the impact of transport schemes and policy along with land-use and development expectations.
Regional models may be used for:
- forecasting changes in traffic levels and public transport patronage at key points across the network;
- transport scheme appraisal;
- transport policy appraisal;
- Regional Transport Strategies;
- appraising regional development plans and local plans; and
- more detailed operational appraisal (eg congestion of roads and junctions).
