Local models

Local transport models, such as microsimulation modelling, often cover smaller geographical areas in a greater level of road network and junction detail. These local models can be used in tandem with LATIS national or regional modelling to measure the detailed response to transport interventions at the local level. For example, indicating changes in specific turning movements or how queuing affects neighbouring junctions.

LATIS has made a significant contribution to local transport appraisal and can be used in isolation to inform local transport policy and can also be used to provide essential input to local transport models.

LATIS can be used to provide strategic traffic movements for input to local models and assess how these movements may change over time based on changes in population and development plans. It can also be applied to indicate how local traffic patterns may change with the introduction of transport interventions which often lie out with the coverage area of local models. These changes in travel patterns can also be fed into a local model.

Further information describing how LATIS can be used to inform local models is provided in the sub-area analysis section.
