Non-Technical Guide to LATIS Modelling Suite
TMfS and TELMoS are important tools in Scotland’s transport and land-use planning inventory. Despite this, models are often seen as complex entities and practitioners and non-practitioners alike often do not fully understand their capabilities. As such, the Non-Technical Guide to LATIS Modelling Suite has been prepared to provide a simplified introduction to the principles of modelling generally and the functionality of TMfS and TELMoS more specifically.
The Guide is divided into the following sections:
- Background and Context - an overview of the purpose and the history of the LATIS Modelling Suite
- The Principles of Modelling - a step-by-step introduction to the key principles and terms associated with transport modelling
- TMfS and TELMoS Model Data - an overview of what data are included in TMfS and TELMoS and an explanation of how they are used
- TMfS and TELMoS Functionality - a review of how TMfS and TELMoS actually ‘work’ and an introduction to the various capabilities of the models
- Glossary - an extensive Glossary explaining key terms related to TMfS and modelling generally.
The various sections of the Guide (and indeed chapters within each section) can either be read in concert with each other or as a stand-alone document. That is, the Guide can be used as an introductory tutorial to modelling or as a handy reference document for looking up the meaning of key terms or modelling techniques.
In order to ensure that each section is of an appropriate length, key terms are linked to the Glossary where they are more extensively explained.
