Data Collection

In general terms, robust data provides a solid foundation for analysis and is an essential component in making efficient decisions. As such Data collection is a key priority within LATIS to ensure that the underlying data used within the modelling suite are robust and suitable for undertaking a wide range of policy analysis.

A large range of data is collected including transport, land-use and demographic data. Much of this data is available to users on request.

The data collection is carried out by the appointed contractors who can be also directed to carry out work for other Transport Scotland Directorates. The contract partitioned Scotland into three broad geographical regions, as follows:

The contract is designed to ensure that the possibility of key data collection requirements not being resourced is minimised. If the nominated area consultant is unable to resource a particular survey, then a ‘call-off’ is made to the reserve consultant for that area. Similarly, if the initial call-off consultant is unable to resource the work programme, then the third consultants can be approached to carry out the collection.
