Data Collection
A large range of data is collected including transport, land-use and demographic data. Much of this data is available to users on request.
To view the data and further details about the data collection, please visit our Data Collection portal.
The data collection is carried out by the appointed contractors who can be also directed to carry out work for other Transport Scotland Directorates. The contract partitioned Scotland into three broad geographical regions, as follows:
- North, which includes Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Argyll and Bute, Dundee City, Moray, Perth and Kinross and the Highlands and Islands;
This area is covered by Colin Buchanan and PMA Data Collection.
- South-East, which includes Borders, City of Edinburgh, Clackmannanshire, East Lothian, Falkirk, Fife, Midlothian, Stirling and West Lothian;
This area is covered by Count-on-Us.
- South-West, which includes Dumfries and Galloway, East Ayrshire East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire.
This area is covered by Amey.
Transport Scotland and their appointed Data Collection Consultant (DCC) also collect variety of data that is specified and requested by users. Key organisations who have made use of the LATIS Data Collection Contract include:
- the Transport Scotland Concessionary Fares Team - to conduct onboard surveys of concessionary passengers to validate bus operators’ reimbursement claims;
- Scottish Water - has been provided with TELMoS Local Authority planning data to offset the need for them to collect these data themselves;
- the Forth Replacement Crossing Team - to carry out various data collection tasks in and around the Forth bridgehead; and
- the Scottish Government Ferries Division – to use LATIS data collection facility to support the forthcoming ‘root and branch’ review of ferry services.
